Introduction to R

Did you know R was created by Ross Ihaka and Robert Gentleman at the University of Auckland, New Zealand? And that it's name stems from the first names of these creators?

But what's more imporant is what R can do for you. The R language is widely used among statisticians and data miners for developing statistical software and data analysis, but EMERGENT gives you the opportunity to come and experience R yourself.

Excel 2.0

5/5 University degree jobs require you to use Microsoft Excel on a daily basis. 4/5 students have never needed an advanced level of Excel in their academic life.

High time to become more proficient!

Since most of us already have had some experience with Excel in the past, we're not going to cover the basic. But we'll immediately jump into the more advanced functionalities of Excel: Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP vs INDEX(MATCH()), Hyperlinks, Conditional Formatting and.... macros!

Effective Visualizations with Tableau

Ever been staring at an inconvenient dataset? Ever been wondering how to get insights easily from your spreadsheet? Then this workshop may just be right for you!

With Tableau, you can unleash the true power of your data! Let your visualizations speak for themselves!

This workshop covers the basics of Tableau and provides everyone with tips and tricks to get the maximum out of their numbers.

R 2.0

In this follow-up workshop to Introduction to R, we take things one step further. In a case study format, we go through the typical data analysis process, going from importing data to cleaning data over building models, to finally visualizing and reporting your findings. Instead of focusing on the traditional techniques for these different steps in the processing, state-of-the-art R packages are introduced that make your analysis easier, better and faster.

Forecasting

In this workshop you will learn how companies use forecasting methods to make predictions about the future. Data analytics consultant from AE, Ben De Wit, will introduce you to the world of forecasting in a 2h workshop, in presence of some snacks in the form of pizza 🤤

The evening will be structured as follows:
0. Free dinner (pizza)
1. Introduction to forecasting
2. (Short) Theoretic concepts of forecasting
3. Case: forecasting sales data using Excel
4. Small challenge in teams (no need to form teams in advance)
5. Reception with free snacks and drinks.

During the short challenge, we form teams and you try to develop a forecasting system that predicts daily ATM cash flow. You will directly apply the new skills you just learned during the workshop on a real world example. Your goal is to beat the accuracy of the other teams. There will be a small prize for the winner!
